Awesome Product! Aug 11, 2010 I love this tripod head! I just upgraded from a cheap-o tripod with a built in head and I must say spending some extra money to buy a quality product is worth it. Very easy to loosen and tighten the head to swivle or change the angle. I love it! I love how there is a level at every angle as well, deffinetly a must have for horizon shots.
My go to panhead with lenses 400mm and longer. Jul 25, 2010 I bought my first 808rc4 quite some time ago.I have since picked up two more and six of the Manfrotto 394 RC4 low profile quick release with the Manfrotto 410PL quick release plates for ease of use compatibility with all my tripod heads.I also use the Kirk BH-1 and the Arca-Swiss B-1 ballheads with the Manfrotto 394 RC4,but my go to heads for long lenses over 300-400 are the Manfrotto 808rc4 panhead or the Wimberley WH-200 II gimbal head.
This is the best panhead that I've used in all my years of photography. If you want a solid panhead for long lens use, macro photography, landscapes or portrait work, this panhead is highly recommended.
BTW...I haven't had any of the problems with the quick release as stated in other reviews here on Amazon. In fact I find the quick release quite simple to use.

DO NOT BUY MANFROTTO 808RC4 3-Way Head Feb 08, 2010 You can't get your camera off the darn head. I had this Manfrotto 808-RC4 3-way head for a year and had nothing but trouble with it. I would spend several minutes while my clients would be standing there waiting for me while the so-called "quick release" lever jammed and wouldn't let me remove my camera. It's so aggravating and embarrassing when a piece of junk like this completely ruins your work flow. There were a few times I actually had to remove the head completely in order to get the camera off of it. Ridiculous!!!
The other night it jammed and the doggone lever fell off! I had little springs and ball bearings flying everywhere. Not pretty.
Now the head is useless. It's only one year old and it not only caused me countless headaches, embarrassment, and aggravation until it finally fell apart in my hands.
I cannot say enough bad about this product. Manfrotto should be ashamed!!!
STAY AWAY!!!
DO NOT BUY MANFROTTO 808RC4 3-Way Head.

Old school tripod head Jan 04, 2010 Much like the 055XPROB tripod I bought with it this head is also very heavy duty. Outside of its weight there isn't anything I've found not to like. It is old school in the sense that you have three levers to control the motion instead of the newer ball heads. I have loaded on my Nikon D80, a 70-300mm lens and a SB-600 flash and it is not stressed at all. Some people have complained about the quick release but I have not found it to be a problem. You just need to pull the release trigger before you try to engage it. Probably could be improved but I wouldn't let it stop you if you like this style of release mechanism.

Quick release problem Aug 28, 2009 As with another reviewer, the quick release is a problem. It gets jammed and I can't get the camera off, except after several minutes of pushing and pulling. No confidence in this head. Otherwise it works fine...
