5Excellent Tripod  Jun 05, 2009 By Kevin
I'm a very tall person (6'5"). It took me a while to decide what tripod to buy, but finally I found this gem. Its by far the best tripod of its type I've ever owned.

Pro:

- Its SOOOO tall. With a normal ball mount on top (or even a gimbal) the legs can still extend about 8 inches further (without the center pole being used).

- Stability: With just a camera and lens on the tripod I'd rate its stability as "very good". However, under the center pole there is a hook you can attach your bag (or other weight) to that makes this thing rock solid.

- Feet: Comes with both flat rubber and metal spikes as feet. Changing them is easy; the tool for it comes with it.

- Looks: While not as important as the other issues, the tripod looks quite sharp and professional.

Con:

- My biggest issue with this tripod is the way in which you extend the legs. They twist easily enough, but if you try to pull them out quickly a vacuum is created inside the tube which adds resistance and can at times actually suck the leg part of the way back in.

- Heavy, but at this price there's no way to get around that. A carbon fibre tripod costs easily 3x as much, for this height probably 4x.

- Bulky: Not sure if this is really a "con" or just a fact of life. When you buy a tripod this size its going to be big, especially if you attach a gimbal mount to it.

5Strong enough to balance my motorcycle on top...almost  Jan 30, 2008 By Joel G. Landau "Technophile"
I evaluated many tripods before purchasing this one. It's amazingly robust and strong. I would not buy another one... and I doubt I'll ever have to!

I've coupled my with a Manfretto-Bogen 322RC2 ball head... great combo!

Pro's:
* Taller than I'll ever need or anyone that I know. Its massive!
* Absolutely dead stable. No jiggle what-so-ever, which is exactly why I bought it. Other tripods of the same price range just didn't feel this stable.
* Includes a nice padded carry case with a strap and a set of tools as well as interchangeable leg tips for different surfaces
* Once extended, the leg angle can be extended by pulling out a locking mechanism, allowing to to configure the tripod at interesting angles for more creative shots

Con's:
* Twist-locks on the legs makes extending the legs a little slower than the typical levers, however, they won't 'unclip' causing a leg to compress at an inopportune moment
* Occasionally, its difficult to operate the twist locks - I've found you sometimes have to wiggle the leg itself sometimes.
* Even compressed fully, its longer than most tripods. This is OK for me, although some might find it a bit bulky. I can still strap it to the back of my motorcycle for a day trip.

5Outstanding product!  Feb 13, 2011 By Don Wormke
Excellent quality, ultimate stability, big and relatively heavy. Exactly what I was looking for in a tripod for my purposes. The price tag made this item a steal.

5BIG, definitely won't budge.  Oct 25, 2010 By Tommy B.
First off, this is a BIG tripod. Make sure you read the product description and the dimensions to determine if this is the right one for you. When I was looking for a tripod, I wanted one that I could take around town and go hiking with and not be a bother. I decided that this wasn't the tripod for me. Fully collapsed it's over 2ft long. With the legs fully extended, it stood just about at the top of my head. This was without a head and camera attached, and I'm about 5'10" tall. I found it was perfect as long as I didn't extend the bottom leg section. But still, this tripod was too cumbersome to lug around. At first thought, 8lbs didn't seem that heavy. And again, all this was without a head, camera, and lens attached.

With that being said, this is a great tripod if you're a nature photographer that carries large telephoto lenses. It's got a very wide base and, with it being as heavy as it is, you shouldn't have to worry about it moving on you. It does have a spring loaded hook on it's center column for additional stability.

This is still a great tripod, which is why I gave it 5 stars. It just didn't suit my needs which I would've found out had I examined the product description a bit more. I was simply attracted to it's sale price. This tripod has been around $60 a few times. So, if you can find it on sale, it would be a great bargain.

5Just Buy It  Sep 24, 2010 By Rex B Jennings
Professional grade equipment. Reasonable price. I looked at tripods costing 3 - 4 x (and yes more than ten times) as much and didn't see a significant difference. Bottom line, dollar cost average per unit quality, this item is unbeatable. This may weight a pound or two more but who really cares. I am happy with my purchase. If you have to have the latest greatest or the lightest thing on the market spend your money elsewhere, as for me; I'd rather buy another ridiculously expensive lens, than waste money on those things.
